Yesterday was an emotional class for many of you. It showed how powerful you can be when you speak with conviction. A lot of emotions were running through the room, but when asked what the value of doing this was, you hit it on the head. Speaking with conviction grabs the attention of your audience and makes them want to listen to you. It also empowers others to make change.
A reminder for Tuesday, we will be giving reports on making our ideas clear. Check the blog below for the details, or look in your manual on 6.4-6.5.
Dale Carnegie said "The more such practice impromptu speaking a person gets the better he will be qualified to meet the real situations that may arise when he has to speak 'for keeps' in his (business and) social life."
Thursday we will put to test how effective we are thinking on our feet!!

Unleash your full potential!
Great job energizing your communications in class yesterday by staying in action for 30 seconds. Adding action into our reports keeps people interested and makes you more engaging as a speaker while helping release any nervous energy you may have.
In session 7 you will be reporting on how you were able to gain the willing cooperation of others by utilizing the principles on page 4.26 and 4.27. Take the time to read through each principle and decide who in your life you would be able to gain the cooperation of by using the principles you select. What is the benefit of gaining the cooperation of people? What are some situations you may need to do so? Leave your comments here!
Thursday, you will each be delivering a one-minute report about a deep conviction that you hold about a subject that you have strong feelings about. Page 5.12 in your manual gives the description or the report and the planning sheet is on 5.13.
The topic you choose should be one that you are willing to stand up for and be counted. At the end, you should supply the class with an action and benefit that you recommend they take as a result of your report. Remember, this is not a rant about something you "hate" or "can't stand" but rather something you hold very deep feelings about.
Your report for next Tuesday is about making your ideas clear. You will be giving a "how to" talk on the topic of your choice. It could be how to serve a volleyball, how to change a flat tire or how to throw a football.
Use the LIONS formula to communicate your report:
use Language that is easily understood
bring Illustrations or exhibits to assist you in your report
make sure you Organize your thoughts so your report is clear and easy to follow
make sure you Narrow your subject to key points- be specific!
at the end Summarize your report, making sure not to add any new information
The report is on 6.4, with the planning sheet on 6.5.

Put Stress into Perspective!
Tuesday we discussed the principles to managing the stress in our lives. Remember your commitment! Committing to deal with stress in an effective way is committing to a better life. A lot of us have seen what happens to people when they can't handle stress. We don't want to end up where those people did!
Thursday we will be reporting on our commitment to enhance relationships. This was assigned in session 2, so we have had a couple weeks to put our commitment's into action. I am excited to hear how this has worked out for you.
Remember what Mr. T taught us last week? Get right to the incident and end with an action and benefit? Do you think this is something we should continue to use for the rest of our reports? (YES!!) This is called the "magic formula" and should be used for all of our reports from here on out! ((page 4.18 and 4.19 go into more detail))
See you later today!

Defining Moment
Class went really well today. Some of you shared things that were difficult to share, but you worked through it. Being able to open up this quickly will help you gain the maximum benefit from this program as long as you allow yourselves to keep progressing.
Here are your assignments for next Tuesday and Thursday.
Tuesday: You will be reporting on a specific area of your life that you commit to express yourself with more enthusiasm. You will have one minute to discuss the following things:
-What area of your life you will focus on
-How you currently approach this area
-How you WILL approach it when you focus on being more enthusiastic
Choose an area that you want to significantly improve your enthusiasm, your attitude and your activity level. Some examples could include homework, sports, getting up early on the weekends, helping out around the house more etc. etc. Use the worksheets on 3.6, 3.7 and 3.8 to help plan. Feel free to write about 3 or 4 ideas, but choose one to report on.
Thursday: You will be reporting on an achievement or accomplishment you worked hard for and are proud of. We were not able to discuss all of the details today, so we will cover this on Tuesday.
This report will be for 2 minutes and you are required to use an exhibit. This could be a letter, trophy, certificate, picture, email etc.etc Read 3.12 and 3.13 in your manuals to help you along.
Post your comments and questions below!

It's amazing that the memorizing process pegging system we learned yesterday can help us in any situation where we need to remember something. Try it out on your next test, you will be surprised how easy the information is to recall!
Yesterday, we made a commitment to enhance relationships. What principle (1-9) really hit home with you? Why? Which do you think will be the easiest to use? Which will be the hardest? Why do you think so?
Remember to bring your breakthrough plan with you if you did not hand it in on Tuesday!
Thursday we will be delivering our reports on a "defining moment" in our life. Any questions about the report? Post below!

Welcome!
Great class Thursday. We heard some great vision statements and were able to have some fun with how to remember names. When will you be able to use those techniques for remembering names? Did anyone have any encounters over the weekend where they were able to utilize what we learned?
For Tuesday: Can you finish this sequence?!
One-Run
Two-Zoo
Three-Tree
Four-?
Five-?
Six-?
Seven-?
Eight-?
Nine-?
For Thursday: You will be giving a two minute report on a specific incident in your life that was a"defining moment." The topic is about a personal life experience; a specific, vivid incident that made an impact on who you are today.
Think about qualities you possess, i.e compassionate, honest, family focused, etc. How did you come to value these qualities?
When you look back on your life so far, what events stand out? What qualities do you now have because of these events?
Remember, think of a SPECIFIC incident!
